Established in 1890, 17 years before Oklahoma achieved statehood, the University of Oklahoma (OU) is considered the state’s premier institution of higher education. OU consistently ranks among the top two in the nation in National Merit Scholars per capita at American public universities and is in the top five public universities in graduation of Rhodes Scholars.
