A Way to Help! Speard the Word…
- March 15, 2016
The Cleveland County disABILITY Coalition began in 2012 as a partnership between United Way of Norman and Sooner Success. Membership is composed of several partnerships in the community including agencies, family members, and self-advocates. The Coalition’s goal is to provide education and awareness of the needs of individuals with disabilities concentrating on inclusion and accessibility in the community.
This year, the Coalition is focusing on the need for workplaces to hire individuals with disabilities. The project will increase awareness of a large and valuable untapped workforce that can benefit businesses by providing them employees with loyalty, longevity, and productivity.
Research has shown that businesses that hire people with disabilities have:
*Increased employee morale
*Positive corporate culture
*Increased bottom-line productivity
*Lower turnover rates (especially with those employees who have disabilities)
